Teeth are rooted in the jawbones with one to four roots connecting them in place. Tooth extraction is an oral surgery that can remove teeth from the jaw, usually without the need for incisions. The procedure can be performed in a brief office visit—most tooth extractions can be completed in about 15 minutes once the tooth is numbed or the patient is sedated.

Front teeth and incisors usually only have one root, making them the easiest to remove. Molars and wisdom teeth can have up to four roots, making them more difficult. Our dentists carefully prepare for any tooth extraction by using advanced imaging to determine the location of the roots and whether any complications may occur during the procedure. This reduces the chances of problems during the surgery and improves the recovery.

Sedation for Tooth Removal

Sedation is not needed for tooth extractions, but some patients may be nervous about their procedure. At Neville Dental Studio, we discuss all the anesthesia options with our patients before their tooth removal surgery. Many patients only have local anesthesia, but we do office sedation dentistry for those who need extra help relaxing during their oral surgery.

Recovery from tooth extractions is minimal. Our dental team will review some restrictions with you before your surgery to ensure you have a fast recovery with a low risk of complications.
